- List four indications of a chemical reaction.
1.
2.
3.
4.
- Explain how the pictures a, b, c, in Fig 2 on pg 270 represent chemical reactions.
a.
b.
c.
4.
Define reactant.
- Define product.
- On the back of this sheet list and describe the 7 symbols in Table 9-1 pg 271.
- What is a word equation? Give an example.
- What is a skeleton equation? Give an example.
- When you balance chemical equations a coefficient is put in front of products and reactants until the number of atoms of an element on the left of a chemical equation equals the number of atoms of the element on the right. This strategy for balancing chemical equations obeys the Law of Conservation of Mass. Coefficients are whole numbers and are usually not written if the value is 1. The coefficients describe the smallest whole-number ratio of reactants and products.
*****List and BRIEFLY describe the 6 steps to balancing a chemical
equation on the back of this sheet. (pg 274)
- Do Practice Problems 1-3 pg 272 and 4-6 pg 275 on the back of this sheet.
